IN THE NAME OF "JOBS"
IN THE NAME OF "JOBS"
Dear Editor -
Post World War Two industrialists gave lots of folks in our area jobs.
While doing so, they dumped mega-tons of chemicals into our rivers and tarnished our waterways for decades still to come.
The towns in our area are seldom called "river-towns" because two of the most polluted rivers in the country border them – chemical laden and dangerous.
Now, in the name of “jobs” and progress, the new industrialists would build a structure which would boast the largest carbon footprint in the state of NJ in the middle of this slow-mending environmental wasteland. They, like the industrialists of old, promise a boost to our welfare. Our children will pay the price of that poison and lack of foresight just as we pay the price now for the polluted rivers gifted by our predecessors.
If construction of the Xanadu/American Dream mega-mall is permitted to continue, those public servants that decide in its favor will bear the same legacy as the industrialist polluters of yesteryear.
It is our responsibility to teach our children well, demonstrating that we have learned from past errors of judgment.

AWARD RECEIVED!
Xana-Doo-Doo/American Nightmare" Demonstration Art receives Prestigious Award
“XANA-DOO-DOO/ AMERICAN NIGHTMARE “PEACE DEMONSTRATION RECEIVES AWARD
The Dull Music Art Regulatory Commission awarded The Xana-Doo-Doo/ American Nightmare demonstration art piece as one of the country’s premier art expressions for 2012.
“How honored we are to receive this prestigious award, stated one of the artistic demonstrators. This should push our efforts over-the-top! Thank you to the Commission.”
The notable crowd in attendance applauded uproariously.
Another demonstrator quipped: “ Well, if John Lennon and Yoko Ono could move the world with a bed-in for peace, I guess we can move folks with our Xana-Doo-Doo/ American Nightmare sit-in."

construction workers
Peaceful demonstration comment - construction workers
Some proponents of Xana-doo-doo / American Nightmare use this logic:
"Xanadu will create thousands of construction jobs for workers."
Our answer is this:
1. We have great respect for skilled workers who labor diligently at impressive goals. They are normally very tough people who clock in and deserve hard-earned pay for their skilled efforts.
2. Some of these workers, out of fear, tend to wimp out and become impotent slaves to projects that will ultimately hurt their children.

definition of protest
Peaceful Demonstration comment #1 - protest definition
XANADU / AMERICAN DREAM MEGA-MALL – PEACEFUL PROTEST DEMONSTRATION ----- On 1/11/12, a peaceful demonstration was launched on Marginal Road, Rutherford NJ, adjacent to the State Highway Route 3 construction project during the A.M. rush hour - (to be visible - around 7am-8am – Tues’ and Fri’s when possible). The demonstration is in response to the Xanadu / American Dream mega-mall proposition which would project to open in 2013. This alleged mall intends to force a structure with the largest carbon-footprint in the state of NJ in an ENVIRONMENTALLY SENSITIVE PROTECTED wetland park at the foot of New York City. The project, debated for several years, will need NJ state taxpayer funds to subsidize its building in a supportive bailout of this strictly private-enterprise project. Dullmusic and scores of other citizen-protective activist organizations and scores of informed individuals are adamantly opposed to this mall-blight on NJ’s environmental record. We consider it unconscionable that powers-to-be would deceptively force this project on the citizens of this environmentally recuperating area. -------- Demonstration signs will read: "XANA-DOO-DOO" / "AMERICAN NIGHTMARE" --- an apt re-naming of “Xanadu / American Dream.”
An updated blog will be lodged here in the “PEACE DEMONSTRATION” menu of the JMH Dull Production website. Additional generic environmental thoughts are often found in the “fresh thoughts” menu of this website.

goals of the demonstration
Peaceful demonstration comment #3: goals of the demonstration
These questions have been asked and, most likely, will be asked again: What are the goals of your peaceful demonstration? What are you trying to accomplish?
Our answer is this:
If we were bankers or public officials that were trying to put one over on the public, would we desire that full disclosure be required of our actions?

Pioneers
APPLAUSE!!! APPLAUSE!!! for brave pioneers
We understand that there is a group lobbying for the relinquishment of the former Xanadu site to the Rutgers and Princeton Environmental Science Departments.
The plan, apparently, would be to establish the globe’s foremost environmental center and school there.
We applaud that effort! What more fitting place for an advanced environmental idea than at this site which holds such a tarnished history of environmental greed and graft. The school would compliment the legacy of those who tirelessly fought for the region’s mend.
It’s only a plus that this concrete statement would be at the foot of the world’s most prominent city – a visual and compelling commitment to the globe’s future generations. Hurray for the futuristic thinking of brave pioneers.

A Vision of Safety
Here’s a math problem for the statistically oriented folks in our region:
1. Take the number of traffic deaths and accidents that occured on Rutherford highways and ramps since the inception of DOT construction in the area.
2. Compare it to the number of traffic deaths and accidents that occured on Rutherford highways and ramps during an identical time segment previous to construction.
3. Chart the traffic deaths and accidents that occur for an extended time frame, post-construction. (In fairness we must add traffic deaths and accidents in the entire south end of Rutherford - consequential and extreme changes in traffic patterns will become a resultant statistical part of the construction project’s safety rating.
Correlate all the information, and then we will have a true idea of the “safety vision” that the NJDOT has gifted us with.

SIERRA CLUB CONTINUES DISSEMINATING INFO ON XANADU/AMERICAN DREAM
SIERRA CLUB CONTINUES DISSEMINATING INFO ON XANADU/AMERICAN DREAM
WHERE ARE YOU ON THIS???--- (**the following is an excerpt from a July 10 release by the Sierra Club**)- "A poll came out in June showing that 58% of New Jersey residents do not want tax money to be used to help out the American Dream mall. However Triple Five, the Canadian based company developing the mall has asked for tax-free financing that could be as much as $800 million. Triple Five already has received $350 million because of a no subsidy cap that was passed in June. In total they could receive $1.15 billion through subsidies and government financing." [See "peace demonstration" menu] - THIS BASICALLY MEANS THAT 58% OF NEW JERSEYANS ARE OPPOSED TO XANADU. - WITHOUT A TAX DOLLAR BAIL-OUT, THE PROJECT STOPS. – Will we tell public servants where to stand? - Currently, bureaucrats are deviously forcing this issue. - The roles should be rightfully reversed. Citizens tell public servants what to do. - Public servbants work for citizens, and citizens pay them for their work. - 58% opposed is a considerable majority - This is a democracy. Autocracies are for those who need to be spoon fed.
