FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Loretta Hagen Band with John Dull and the Dull Music Band in concert
Expect lots of fiddles, mandolins, guitars, and beautiful vocal harmonies when two alt folk/country bands join forces for an acoustic happening - October 16 in Rutherford, NJ.
The Loretta Hagen Band with John Dull and the Dull Music Band will share stage at the Prospect Music Series, the 400 seat Bergen venue. You'll experience 2 stylistically opposed musical groups that come from the same root. The juxtaposition of their differing forms of the alt/folk idiom promises interesting magic.
Hagen’s band, on the express country circuit, has done the Nashville thing and was recently featured on WFUV Radio in conjunction with a The Byrds’ Roger McGuinn concert. Dull’s band has been a highlight in the regional folk circuit working with Pete Seeger, the Oak Ridge Boys, Emmylou Harris, Tom Paxton and more.
Hagen’s band can be melodious and smooth; Dull’s Band can be challenging and provocative. Both are musically direct and strong, and will grip an audience, Both pulsate in beauty and excitement.
The bands have joined forces before. Richie Havens has had them open, and Uncle Floyd Vivino had them on circuit. Songs can range from the serious and sentimental to the comedic and rowdy. “It’s always been meaningful and special,” said Dull. Rumor has it that during the Oct 16 the two may team up for some songs. Bring your hootin’ voice and your stompin’ shoes to get the most out of this one – chances are you'll be out of your seat before night’s end.
Coincidentally, the 2 artists went to the same Rutherford high school, St. Mary’s, back in the day. Both bands now return to town for a Rutherford bash and homecoming.
Hagen’s mom still lives in the town. The artist has been on national tour in support of dissemination of information about Alzheimer’s, the illness from which her mom suffers. Loretta’s latest album has a cut, “Sundown ‘til Dawn,” featured in a documentary called "Ten Mountains, Ten Years", about a group of mountain climbers who are climbing mountains all over the world to raise awareness. “I want to shed light on this terrible disease that has afflicted my own mother, so that someday; there will be better treatments and ultimately a cure for all who suffer from A.D.”
The Hagen band includes: husband and guitarist, Gary Hagen; drummer, Debby Maggiulli; bassist, Teri Avella; fiddler, Dave Barry; and vocalist, Sara Gallmann.
The Dull band includes 23 year old drummer, Alex Zetelski; fiddler, Dan O’Dea; bassist and mandolin player, Scott Petito; and guitarist, Ted Clancy. Martin Dull, also 23, recently featured in a full page Bergen Record Entertainment cover article, will share lead with John Dull, noted folk impresario.
Acoustic roots music is on the rise, and so it is with both these bands. Media has been paying a lot of attention to them, and you’ll be able to catch both in one setting while they're on the move to the top.
The Prospect Music Venue is located at Union and Prospect Ave’s, Rutherford
in the Rutherford Congregational Church.
Tickets for the Oct 16 hullabaloo can be purchased in 3 ways:

By phone: 201 – 321 - 2756

You are invited to a House Concert / Art Show
ODea and LaVoie Performing

You are invited to a foot-stompin' good time on Sunday, July 19 at 2 pm in Rutherford – the area’s last house concert for the summer. Fiddle, mandolin, guitar, banjo, harp guitar with superb vocal harmonies - Dan LaVoie and Dan O'Dea, the featured artists, display NJ acoustic music at its best. Both musicians have shared stage with Pete Seeger. You can check them out at www.DanLaVoie.com and www.DansBands.com. Please come and enjoy an exciting afternoon of music and visual art displayed at the venue. The house concert hosts would love to see you there! Admission is by invitation. To request an invitation drop an e-mail to JMHDProductions@aol.com or log into the house concert website at www.dullmusic.com. RSVP asap.

This event is the second in a series of continuing events in various Rutherford homes. Following the July 19 date, the series will return in the fall on Sunday, September 20, with Driscoll and Smith (www.Driscoll-Smith.com); and on Sunday, October 18, with Loretta Hagen and Friends (www.LorettaHagen.com).

The July 19th gig features Dan O’Dea, a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist from Highland Park. A traditionalist, O’Dea plays fiddle, mandolin, flat-picking guitar, banjo, and stand-up bass. A noted instructor of fiddle styles, classical violin, mandolin, and banjo, he has been a guest lecturer on folk styles at Rutgers University on four separate occasions, and led the fiddle workshop at the 2006 AFBA Bluegrass Festival at Wind Gap, Pennsylvania. Since 2007, Dan has coordinated the jamming segment of the New Jersey Folk Festival. In September 2007, the artist won in the Fireback Bluegrass Fiddle contest “Oldtime” category. He owns and operates a music school, Dan’s Music Studio, in West Orange, New Jersey. WWW.DansBands.com.

O’Dea’s partner, Dan LaVoie, is one of the few musicians in the world actively composing and performing on the rare “harp guitar.” An accomplished string player, LaVoie picked up the harp guitar in 2001 and has since composed solely for this instrument. The music accentuates deep basses and well-executed melody lines. Bob Makin of Relic's Magazine writes "Dan's soaring execution will drop the jaws of unsuspecting acoustic music fans and impress those familiar with this young man's chops!" “His live performances are a special experience visually and aurally.” He adds passionate singing to round out the experience, harmonizing brilliantly with O’Dea.

In recent years, LaVoie has toured extensively both in the U.S and internationally. He is also an annual performer at the Harp Guitar Gathering, a series featuring the worlds finest harp guitarists. Dan is endorsed by Dean Markely Strings, Sunrise Pickups, and K&K Pickups.

In the intimate house setting, attendees will become part of O’Dea’s and LaVoie’s concert - an experience much unlike venued concerts. House concert attendees get hooked on the idea of emotion conveyed in close performance, which explains why the format is exploding around the U.S.
Go to www.dullmusic.com and follow the prompts for further information and to request an invitation. With the return invitation you will receive directions to the Rutherford event.

Wonderful show - relaxed and great music - good crowd - You'll see these guys again in this area - the real thing! Dan O'Dea and Dan LaVoie - fiddle, harp guitar, banjo, mandolin, vocal harmonies
