 Folk Music Meets Neuroscience

Shatter the humdrum!

Gather with credited folk artists for an evening with sideline PowerPoint, high-lighting songs’ neuro-impact. Participate with the artists in this exploration -

Why do some songs live forever? What are mechanisms that compel songs’ sustaining power? What is “the power of song?” How can a song or melody carry us away? How can a moving speech or the lyrics of a song actually affect our physical brain state? These questions and more will be addressed in a mostly concert setting.

 Artist bios: (photos below)

Presenter, singer-songwriter, John Dull  -  has appeared on folk stages with Pete Seeger; Peter, Paul and Mary; Richie Havens; Emmylou Harris; Odetta; Tom Paxton; Tom Chapin; Floyd Vivino and others.

At Duke University, the artist was involved in independent research exploring  neurobiological bases of peak experience – that experience that athletes may refer to as “being in the zone.“  Research indicates that folks involved in all kinds of creative enterprises – can enter elevated psychological states that are productive and good for health. Fordham University Psychology Department invited the presenter to organize a string of return concerts for Psych intro students. The concepts led to this April 10 presentation.   www.dullmusic.com
